Geologists' Cumbria Coursework

Geology students from The Sixth Form College, Solihull journeyed up to Cumbria last weekend to undertake essential field work at the Blencathra Field Study Centre.
A group of 16 second year Geology students embarked on the trip to complete work for their coursework. Located on the south west side of Blencathra Mountain, near Keswick, the centre is in an area of great beauty in the heart of the Lake District and offers sites ideal for geological study.
The students focussed their field work on metamorphic aureoles. They braved the cold to examine the rock formations of the area.
Chris King, teacher of Geology at the College, commented: "The visit was a great success. We must thank all the staff at the Blencathra Field Study Centre, who made us feel so welcome and provided such an excellent opportunity to complete this vital coursework.
"The students enjoyed the chance to get out of the classroom and put their studies into practice. They learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, despite the cold!"
