The Sixth Form College, Solihull welcomed a host of local, nationwide and international businesses onto campus today, as the annual Employer Event took place.

Aimed at helping students' career progression, more than 15 organisations were present for two hours this morning to give information to students about recruitment possibilities and to answer questions about their field of business.

Ranging from major retailers like John Lewis and construction firms like Taylor Woodrow Developments Ltd to public sector organisation and the armed forces, a wide range of career opportunities were represented at today's event.

The public sector, health, childcare and environment were covered, with West Midlands Police, the Fire Service and representatives from Heartlands Hospital also present. Representing the armed forces were the Royal Navy and Marines.

Two 'Big 4' accountancy and business consultancy firms were present in Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers, while educational advisors Connexions were also on hand to advise students.

Major tour operator Thomson (incorporating Lunn Poly) talked to students, along with companies specialising in engineering, surveying, finance, education, accomodation and catering.

Head of Careers at the College, Jim Clulee said: "We are delighted to have such a variety of employers present at this event and we thank them all for giving up their time to help our students. Careers choices are among the most important decisions that young people have to make and we pride ourselves on helping them to make the right choices."

Every year a significant number of students are interested in exploring direct entry to career opportunities, some of the best of which are represented at this event.

However, for some higher education beckons before they begin their careers. Every year approximately 850 students progress from the College to university to read a wide range of courses. The College has an excellent support system to aid students to achieve their potential and to help them make the transition onto further education.
