Coventry Contract for College Baller
The captain of The Sixth Form College Solihull AASE Basketball Academy has had his talent recognised after catching the eye of coaches at the Coventry Crusaders Basketball Club.
Ben Timms (aged 18, from Solihull) has signed for the England Basketball Division One outfit after impressing during a recent trial. He was invited to practice with the team and did so well that he has now signed for the club officially.
"I’m really excited," enthused Ben. "I love basketball and enjoy playing for the College, but in signing for Coventry I’m going to be up against good quality players, both in practice and in games which should really help me to develop my game."
Scott Neely, Head Coach of the Coventry Crusaders, added: "We’re very pleased to have Ben join us. I look forward to setting some goals with him for the season and working to achieve those goals."
College Academy Coach Richard Parker commented, "This is fantastic news for Ben and a great reflection on the Academy that we can act as a stepping stone to the next level. Ben is a determined person and I know he’ll do himself proud. I wish him all the best."
Ben is currently in his second year at the College, studying Chemistry, Geology and Physics at A Level. He is also a valuable member of the Basketball Academy at the College, regularly among the top scorers for the team.
He will be hoping to make his debut for Coventry this Saturday when they play Reading Rockets at Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre at 7.30pm. Meanwhile, The Sixth Form College Solihull AASE Basketball Academy’s next game is on Wednesday against Truro in the British College’s National League.
