College Welcomes New Students
Eager new students, who are planning to start at The Sixth Form College, Solihull in September visited the College on Wednesday and Thursday last week to take part in taster sessions known as Welcome to College Days.
All those students currently holding an offer to join the College in September were invited in to learn more about the College as a whole and to sample what it will be like to study there. The event included taster sessions in all subject areas, so students could get a real flavour of what the courses involve.
More than 1,500 students attended, coming from schools all over Solihull and Birmingham. It was an enjoyable day for students and staff, as it gave everyone the chance to get to know each other before the new academic year starts. The sessions were kept light and fun and the students got a tour of the College, so the campus will not seem quite so confusing when they start in September.
Bob Beaumont, a Director of Teaching and Learning at the College, coordinated the event and was delighted with the turnout.
"A lot of organisation goes into putting these sessions on, which are aimed at giving new students a warm welcome to their chosen college. We go to great trouble to make all our prospective students feel comfortable and enthusiastic about joining us after their GCSEs and this event is a good way to do that.
"With so many students attending over the two days, staff have been very busy, and the event has been a very positive experience for students and staff alike.
"We wish all the students who visited us the best for their GCSE results, and we look forward to welcoming them to the College full-time. Demand for places this year has been unprecedented, with more applications than ever before, so its no surprise that this event has been so well attended this year."
