Principal of The Sixth Form College, Solihull, Paul Ashdown spoke to Cath Mackie from BBC Midlands Today on Thursday. They were live into the lunchtime show on BBC1 in the Midlands, talking about the huge numbers of applications the College has received this year, which mirrors a regional and national trend.

This year, the College has already had 2,847 applications and with another two weeks to go until the application deadline we fully expect that figure to rise over 3,000. This year's figures are a 51.8% increase on where we were this time last year and that figure was itself 11.1% up on the year before that.

The increase in applications the College has been experiencing extends into an increase in applications for Higher Education as well. At present, 1,037 students from the College have applied to university through UCAS, which is higher than we have ever had before. 130 of those are students who left the College last year.

BBC Midlands Today is on again at 6.30pm tonight on BBC1 in the Midlands.
