Local chocolate manufacturer Cadbury’s have been in the news of late, with the recent announcement that the firm is being taken over by American giant Kraft. Travel & Tourism students from The Sixth Form College, Solihull visited Cadbury World this week to see what makes it such a popular tourist attraction.

A group of 46 students took a day-trip to the Bournville attraction, which celebrates the heritage of the legendary chocolate brand. They were there to learn more about the visitor centre and how the site has been turned into a popular tourist attraction, which lured approximately 574,000 visitors in 2009.

Students saw how chocolate is made and, of course, had the chance to enjoy a taste as well. The focus was on what Cadbury World do to meet the needs of their customers and students also saw how they cater for the younger audience at Cadbury World with a host of displays and activities aimed at entertaining children.

Janice Hamilton, Assistant Principal at the College and a Travel & Tourism teacher, commented, "It is so valuable for our students to get out of the classroom and see a successful tourist attraction in operation. Cadbury World is just on our doorstep and it is an excellent example of British tourism in action. They also have an excellent education department, who help students get the most from their visit."

There are more than 70 students at the College studying A Level Travel & Tourism, studying topics such as customer service, event management and tourism development. Students get the opportunity to go on a number of visits and fieldtrips, with recent excursions to New York City and Paris having been undertaken.
