A Night Of Classics

Performing Arts students from The Sixth Form College, Solihull entertained staff, students and visitors this week with a montage of classical theatrical scenes they have called "A Night of Classics".
The first year BTEC Performing Arts students are performing a rolling programme of short scenes. They will take a close-up look at the different styles of acting in their scenes from Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg to classical Anton Chekhov.
"A Doll’s House" by Henrik Ibson is the first sketch performed. Three pieces by Chekhov are also being dramatised in the form of "Uncle Vanya", "The Seagull" and "Three Sisters" and sandwiched between these is "Miss Julie" by August Strindberg.
The performances take place in the College’s Drama Studio on Thursday 25th February at 7.00pm. Elaborate costumes and different styles of acting make this a not to be missed event.
It is all excellent experience for the students, who are studying acting in great depth. The BTEC Performing Arts course places a great deal of emphasis on the practical side of acting and the students embrace this emphasis fully.
Performing Arts teacher, Michael Bodenstein, commented: "These classic plays provide the students with a fantastic opportunity to really sink their teeth into something challenging and hard hitting. They have been working really hard to do the scenes justice and everyone who comes to watch is in for a treat."
