International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate Diploma is being delivered by The Sixth Form College, Solihull and Tudor Grange School and teaching will take place at both institutions. Students will all be full members of the College and will also be taught at the school by the teachers.
What is the International Baccalaureate Diploma?
The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) is a two year course that provides excellent preparation for university. It is an alternative to A Levels and will suit students who have enjoyed studying a range of subjects at GCSE and who are keen to continue studying a variety of subjects at advanced level.
The IB is fully recognised by universities and employers in the UK and around the world. It provides students with a high level academic qualification and the opportunity to demonstrate abilities and interests in arts, sports and service to the community.
Students following the IB will study six different subjects, usually three at Higher Level (equivalent to A Level) and three at Standard Level (equivalent to AS Level).
At the heart of the IB there are three central elements:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK) - drawing on elements of philosophy and critical thinking.
- Creativity, Action and Service to the Community projects (CAS)
- An Extended Essay - a piece of personal research on a topic chosen by the student.
Below are a series of links, which you can click on to get more information about the IB. The first link "General Information" gives an overview of the course and explains the subject choices that students can make. More detailed information about each subject is available via the subsequent links. It is important to note that only one subject per group can be selected in a students' programme of study.
Please note: We are not accepting applications for the International Baccalaureate Diploma for entry in September 2009, but will be recruiting for September 2010.
