Applied Courses

There are a variety of vocatinal options available at The Sixth Form College, Solihull at both Intermediate and Advanced Level. these courses involve more coursework and aer assessed by fewer examinations.While these courses usually lead to higher education, they are also auitable for those looking to progress onto training or employment after College.

GCE Double Applied A Levels
These are 12 unit qualifications studied over two years, equivalent to two A Levels. Assessment is through a combination of internal coursework (approx 60%) and external tests (approx 40%).

Level 3 National Vocational courses
The College offers BTEC National Diplomas. These are advanced level qualifications consisting of 18 units studied over two years. They are equivalent to three A Levels and they are assessed by 100% coursework.

New Diplomas
The College is offering a range of  new Diplomas. These Diplomas are offered through a consortium of local schools and Colleges. As of September 2010, we will be offering the Diploma in Business, Admin & Finance, Health, Society & Development, IT, and Sport & Active Leisure.

These new Diplomas are integrated awards, comprising learning in a specific subject area, but also in a range of other areas such as literacy and numeracy, learning and thinking skills and work experience. They also offer other opportunities to take additional options such as AS Levels in a range of subjects. Further detail about these new Diplomas can be found on the following two pages.
