Entry Requirements

We ask for a certain level of academic attainment in order to progress onto a programme of study at the College.

We have set entry at this level because we believe if you have achieved to this standard you are prepared for the challenge of advanced level study. For entry in September 2012, there are two sets of criteria; one for an A Level programme and another for an applied programme.

If you are interested in studying a four AS Level programme, entry criteria are:

  • At least two B grades at GCSE
  • At least a further three C grades at GCSE
  • You should have at least a grade C in GCSE English and Mathematics

If you are interested in an applied programme of study, such as a BTEC Diploma, entry criteria are:

  • At least two B grades at GCSE or merit on an equivalent * course
  • At least a further three C grades at GCSE or equivalent *
  • You should have at least a grade C in GCSE English and Mathematics

* Courses equivalent to GCSE may include BTEC First Diplomas and OCR Nationals at Level 2. Please note, we consider these other qualifications to be excellent preparation for a BTEC Diploma course, but need to be supported with good GCSE attainment for A Level study.

The new higher diploma is recognised as a valid route into both A level and BTEC/applied study, but the choice of specific courses will depend on which diploma and other GCSEs you have studied.

Please note that there may be additional entry requirements specific to particular courses - please check each course listing carefully to ensure you understand these entry requirements.
