Overview
The course studies a range of units relating to different aspects of health, social care and early years provision.
Course Outline
AS Level
Unit 1: Promoting Quality Care – the study of equal opportunities legislation and services.
Unit 2: Communications in Care Settings – considers theories and interactions with service users.
Unit 3: Promoting Good Health – studies different perspectives in health and well being.
A2 Level
Unit 10: Care Practice and Provision – the study of services and multi-disciplinary teams.
Unit 15: Social Trends – develops students skills in analysing demographic data to understand social trends that will affect the family and individuals.
Unit 14: Mental Health Issues – understanding the concepts of mental health.
Assessment
Coursework (60%)
Examination (40%)
Examining Board – OCR.
This 6 unit qualification is the equivalent of one A Level. The overall qualification will be graded A - E and carry the same number of points for university entrance.

These qualifications are recognised by universities and employers in a wide range of different disciplines.
Coursework
For this award the student will be expected to complete a range of portfolio assignments as well as externally tested units. The portfolio marks will form a considerable percentage of the overall grade.
Teaching Methods
A variety of teaching methods and learning experiences will be used ranging from classroom based activities through to visiting specialist speakers and the keeping of a work placement log book.

The student will have the opportunity to interact with the health, social care and early years sectors, providing the student with the opportunity to experience the work environment through her/his learning.
