The Sixth Form College, Solihull is celebrating outstanding examination results at Advanced Level for 2008/09.

The College has a reputation for exceptional academic standards and that status has been maintained, with an impressive overall A Level pass rate.

Among the exam excellence, 520 students got all higher grades at advanced level, of which 130 students obtained at least three or more A grades at A Level or double distinctions at advanced vocational level.

Outstanding results have been achieved across many subject areas. Indeed, there was a 100% pass rate in 30 advanced level subjects.

Added to the success this year were the first ever A* grades. This top grade, which marks those students who have achieved particularly highly, will be available on all A Levels from next year, but has been piloted on the Extended Project qualification this year.
 
College Principal, Paul Ashdown, said: “These superb examination results are a testimony to the hard work of the students, dedication of our teaching staff and strong support at home. We are delighted to have maintained such exceptionally high academic standards, which reflect the findings of our recent outstanding Ofsted inspection. This excellent performance is built on the strong foundations established in our partner 11-16 schools throughout Solihull who share in this success.

“More than 850 of our students are now progressing to university, including to some of the most prestigious universities in the country such as Oxford and Cambridge. The College prides itself on the support that we offer to students to help them bridge the gap between school and higher education.”

Among those 850-plus students going to university, students are studying a huge variety of subjects, from Law and Medicine to Architecture and Engineering and many more.
